BorgWarner Turbo Systems Received a Daimler Supplier Award 2012

BORGWARNER INC. DAIMLER AWARD

BorgWarner Turbo Systems received a Daimler Supplier Award 2012 during the Daimler Key Supplier Meeting held recently at the Mercedes-Benz Center in Stuttgart, Germany. As one of Daimler’s 16 best suppliers, BorgWarner was honored in the Mercedes-Benz Cars and Vans-Powertrain category for outstanding performance in quality, costs and delivery reliability. BorgWarner supplies a variety of turbocharging technologies to Mercedes-Benz, including regulated two-stage (R2S®) and twin scroll turbochargers, engineered to significantly improve fuel economy, reduce emissions and increase performance in numerous engines.

“At BorgWarner, we passionately pursue excellence in serving our customers and advancing our technologies. We are very pleased to contribute to Daimler’s success and proud to receive this distinguished award,” said Frederic Lissalde, President and General Manager, BorgWarner Turbo Systems Passenger Car Products. “We are grateful to our employees, who successfully and consistently meet high customer expectations in technology, quality and reliability.”

BorgWarner’s successful and longstanding partnership with Daimler has produced several milestones in advanced turbocharging technologies. In 2008, BorgWarner’s efficient R2S technology for the C 220 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY and C 250 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY engines was the first two-stage turbocharging system installed in a series-produced diesel engine for a Mercedes-Benz passenger vehicle. The engine is the backbone of Mercedes-Benz diesel engine production and is installed in several vehicle segments, including the first four-cylinder engine in the history of the Mercedes S-Class, which launched in 2010. A further highlight is the close cooperation with Daimler in developing the most powerful series production four-cylinder engine in the world featuring the Mercedes-Benz A45 AMG. Powered by BorgWarner’s twin scroll turbocharging technology, the newly developed 2.0-liter gasoline engine delivers outstanding performance with an output of 265 kW (360 HP) and up to 450 Nm of torque while improving fuel economy and lower emissions, achieving an average fuel consumption of 34 mpg (6.9 liters/100 km).

BorgWarner’s highly engineered turbocharging technologies have also received a first prize as one of ten Porsche Supplier of the Year Award winners in 2012.
